hi. i've got a runny nose, but i'm too lazy to get some toilet paper, so i'm using my hand. is that gross? figures. first post in nearly a month and it's gross.

hey well, with that said, i'm either rebounding from a weird bout of pleurisy coupled with a sore throat/cold/flu, or i'm on a gradual decline that will surely end with me in the hospital. i'm thinking i'm getting better, but you never know. it's all rather confusing.

aside from that, things are good.

heather had spring break going on last week and her sister nikki came out to visit for a few days. good times. when i wasn't working, i hung out with them. we went to the clap your hands say yeah show at the bluebird last tuesday. that was a fun show. also caught the damien jurado show last friday. again, a good time. i had a brief, somewhat drunk conversation with damien after the show and took a photo with him. sure i felt silly interupting him mid conversation at the bar, but sometimes you've just gotta do that kind of stuff. plus, he was very cool about it. a very nice guy.

anyway, i took last wednesday off and man is that a good call...taking days off. who even cares about work? exactly. having a whole day to do whatever, we went up to boulder, toured a mead factory, had lunch at chautauqua park, hit up installation (nice little shoe shop), and then came home and grilled up some turkey burgers. later that night we went to the bodyworlds exhibit at the denver science museum. man was that crazy. if you don't know what i'm talking about, google it. it's pretty interesting.

so that pretty much wraps up last week. that's all i really remember anyway...3-5 days. anything more than that is a wash.

sleep.

another historic event goes down in the books.

poder reunion 2006.

seriously...you all missed out on some gooooood smartin up at the poder reunion. thoughts were thunk, themes discussed, particulars laid out, chaos tidied up, problems solved, hunger fed, thirst quenched, gravity tested, beards shaved, and a bunch of stuff that i just can't tell you about.

one particularly noteworthy outcome, as a direct result of poder #2's genius, was the addition of a new color of orange into the world. we named it "ohmygodi'mfuckingblind orange." look for it on runways near you soon!

and while the press conference did have to be abandoned at the last moment, it wasn't because poder #1 had checked himself into rehab as the tabloids have noted, but actually because northwest made 2/3rds of the poder reunion nearly 2 hours late. the press was pissed, but more importantly i was (at northwest mind you). fortunately i had just loaded some simpsons episodes on the ipod, so the wait in the limo at the airport was doable...but we wasted hundreds if not thousands on catering for the event.

anyway, that's why the event wasn't streamed here on gs. it simply didn't happen. we had it all worked out from a technical point of view, but it was simply out of our hands. damn those pilots and whatnot.

but as previously noted, the rest of the reunion was all bells and whistles and things of that nature. i'd elaborate, but that'd just ruin what we have in store for the future.

and yes, we did change the world. just saying. stay tuned.

don't sleep!

fridays are best.

know what else is best? having your birthday fall on a friday. that's great. you can go out. run around. jump. all kinds of stuff. and you can do it worry free because you probably don't work the next day. now, true, some kids work on saturdays...but they don't count.

speaking of birthdays, it's bart's bday today! well, it's his birthday today here in the states. it's probably almost already tomorrow over in japan. so that means he is probably celebrating (or has celebrated too much) by 8:49am states time. how great is that?

wow...two birthdays in two days. this is crazy.

best (day ever).

anyhow...

point your guns to the sky and fire off a round for texas chad - it's his birthday today.

note: i'm pretty sure that you shoot guns in the sky on birthdays in texas. i don't own a gun, so i'm just gonna grab a handfull of rocks and toss 'em as high as i can. feel free to do the same. making gun noises with your mouth is optional.

it seems that fate has brought us together again. i post. you read. it's beautiful. all ying and yang and stuff.

if only you could send me gifts...that would enhance the beauty of this thing we've got goin.

with gifts, it would become "wonderful beauty" or possibly "joyously beautiful." i won't get ahead and call the possibility "incredibly joyous beauty," but the other ones...those are good.

beauty.

the poder reunion is making big news on the big news circuits. people are talking. rumors are spreading. but no one is really sure what will come of it all. a novel? new astonishing mathematical equations? world peace? all are doubtful, but none have been ruled out.

aside from the schedule press conference friday evening, the rest of the reunion events remain unknown.

update: the press passes have been distributed. if you didn't receive one, do not show up for the press conference friday evening. for those with passes, the location and time of the event will be posted here friday. the event will most likely be streamed live on grindstyle.com.

that's it for now.

hi. it's me. sup?

let's start with a quick lesson:

when you let someone "guest post" on your site, make sure you proof what they write BEFORE you let them post.

case in point, chad talkin shit.

second lesson:

when you update your site as infrequently as i do, it's hard to justify bitching. i realize this. i also choose to ignore it.

that wasn't really a lesson, but this is my show.

back to the vail/breck weekend...

the trip was great. great to have chad back out. working on a trip recap with some video (with the new camcorder) and photos, but it's slow goin. no promises, but maybe.

since i already gave you a lesson today, let's add a tip. a potentially valuable tip:

i work for a pretty large company. they block lots of sites, including innocent ones such as itunes.if you're in the same boat, try this for a quick fix.

use the url below - change the "www.forbiddensite.com" to whatever site you want to view. should do the trick.

http://www.google.com/translate?langpair=en|en&u=www.forbiddensite.com

it worked for me, but can't guarantee it'll work for you.

what else...new apple products today. *yawn* i'm not really impressed.

that's about all i've got today. poder reunion up at copper sat-tues. select media passes available for qualifying applicants.

don't sleep.

Hey y'all. This is a mini-guest writing appearance by Chad. Came out to see D for quick weekend snowboarding trip (thanks Erin). Since D is SOL with his computer lately and never updates Grindstyle (or makes t-shirts, or stickers for snowboard helmets.....sorry personal gripes)he told me to crunch out an update on the drive up.

So far the trip has been crazy. Flew in, went to Sam's club for dig vid and camera accessories, had a great burger at Handle Bar, watched snowboard cross (not snowcross Damon) and way too much men's figure skating (Heather made us since it's her favorite).

It's now 6 am and we're off to Vail with Bagels and Coffee and Damon isn't happy about the rocks on the highway. That's all i've got folks, looking forward to a weekend of snow, beers, and there will probably be a handful of Damon complaining mixed in, but that's nothing new.

Enjoy

hi. are you GOooood? hope so. i'm goods too, but i'm pretty sure i'm loosing...as in, not winning. as in wtf is up with my luck?!

seems my hard drive is failing on the imac. so stoked. had some major problems last night that resulted in 5 reboots. the first few gave i/o errors. the 5th actually got me back in, but it's not looking good. in panic mode, i started a backup of important files. man was it sad...estimated 22 hours to transfer 60 gig to an external drive. but it gets worse - 11 hours later, only 20 gig had transferred. i'm hoping for some good news when i get home from work, but that might be asking a bit much.

and fedex delivery is a crock of shit. just saying.

note: i use the term "delivery" lightly as i think that implies effort to get you your package. some how i think "not showing up" fails to fall into that category. especially when it's already taken 8 days for me to "NOT" get my package.

fedex customer support is of no help either. after a good 15 minutes on the phone (14 of which i was on hold between the two 30 second discussions i had with crabby fedex lady), they told me that the delivery person already returned to the wharehouse, but they were able to find my package and would be happy to delivery it the next morning - first thing!

um, no shit? shouldn't that have happened during the day? wasn't that the plan from day one? and what did she mean by "find" my package?

and p.s. fedex delivery person - if you come to my house and i'm not home, leave a tag so i can sign for the thing. bush league.

aside from those things, and the fact that i can't get my passenger-side headrest down, life is incredibly fine.

oh, and traffic and bad drivers...those suck too!!

facial hair is underrated (despite 2004/2005's hipster craze).

what’s new with you? oh. really? you don’t say? me? um, well...my car is totally fucking crazy. crazy probably isn’t the right word, but the other day while driving home from work, my seat heater burned a hole through my seat and left a burn mark on my pants. mind you this happened while on the highway, at 45 mph (yes that's relatively slow, but it was "rush-hour" busy). somehow, in a matter of like 10 seconds i was able to pull to the median, realize my car wouldn’t fit there, check the smoke coming from my ass, turn the seat heater off, open my backpack, find my backpack, check the seat, determine that my coffee cup was empty and didn’t contain any liquid to douse my seat with, avoid several cars, and pull to the shoulder of the road - all with my butt up in the air avoiding the smoking, glowing ember on my seat.

based on my luck with this jetta over the last two years, i’m fairly certain that the thing is cursed. or i am.

note: if you’ve cursed me, kindly remove said curse so i can get on with the “normal” part of my life. thanks.

anyway, here are some items to file in the “good news” category:

- heather and i went to copper monday and i “attempted” to teach her how to ride. given my teaching skills, she did outstanding for her first time (also her first time out since the acl surgery two years ago.)

- joe left the dark side and bought an ibook. smart. real smart.

- day 25 of birthday beard.

- komp is also rockin a beard. we're really doin it harry. (no pun).

- our governor and mayor declared jan 20th as “orange” day. wtf!? i’m pretty sure this is lame, and i’m not really into sports all that much, but i think it’s fun that the broncos are in the playoffs. sit around, drink beers, eat food? sign me up.

- tomorrow is friday.

don't sleep.

so i know i've been sleeping on this site, but happy 2006. (what? i'm only like eight days late).

ah 2006…time to wax philosophical about 2005 or the new year to come? no. hell no. i don't have time for that shit. seriously. who does?

don't you feel overwhelmed with stimuli these days? man, i do. i've got far too many web sites to check out, too much music to listen to, overdue items to return to the library, a stack of movies to watch, books to read, bills to sort/pay, emails to write, phone calls to make, projects to finish, magazines to read, piles of shit to organize, etc. ad nauseam.

bleh.

so what do i do? or, should you be feeling much the same, what do WE do?

shit if i know. seriously, didn't you read all the bitching back there? i'm overwhelmed myself.

i guess there's always the clichéd new year's resolutions - aka - "...make amends for all the ways you suck." *

personally i've never been into new year's resolutions. not by choice really, but by nature. i just don't seem to be able to see ideas through before i get sidetracked with some other brilliant idea (often later referred to as "crap") that, while at the moment of conception is the best idea ever, sets me off in a new direction leaving all ideas prior in a eternal holding pattern.

note: i am REALLY good at this.

but this year i'm really considering working on making improvements in this arena. i'm not necessarily going to make any specific resolutions per se, but i am going to "work on shit." that's what i'm saying. it's general enough to cover anything that comes up, and specific enough (for me) to know what i've gotta do.

i've already started off on the right foot by getting my free credit report and adding my cell to the no call list and permanently opting out on prescreened mail offers. i highly suggest you do the same. next on my list: attempting to lower credit card rates, increase monthly payments on student loans/credit, up the direct depost amount to savings, and actually taking a stab at making a budget. simplification is also part of the plan, but more about that some other time.

looking for some tips on where to start? check out this post on lifehacker.com.

note: yes, i realize that i just gave you another url to check out and yet another site to visit. i do see how this contradicts what we’re aiming for, but you know… baby steps.

regardless of what steps you take or what steps you don't take - good luck with 2006 and have fun and stuff.

* - i liked the way this was stated in the 43 folders podcast, "fresh starts and modest changes," so i bit it. check it out to hear the rest. you might find it interesting. (direct link - .mp3)

surprise! it’s super special post day! no, not really, but it’s friday and i’m sure this is a surprise as i haven’t posted anything since...november? is that right? damn gina! long time.

here's a brief recap of the last 40 days or whatever:

eat, work, sleep, car accident, pissed, get over it, work, eat, watch some movies, beer, eat, christmas shopping for gift cards, take two weeks of vacation, fly to wisco, eat, drink, komp n' katie time (she rocks. just saying), hug mom, drive to mn, xmas, begin birthday beard, family, eat, drink, drive to wisco, xmas part two, drive to madison, sell ticket to badger game, dinner and drinks with heather and nikki, beers with bart! (no shit. best!), eat maccaroni pizza, sleep, drive back to the sauce, eat, drink, fly to colorado, no new years plans, out for dinner, feel like crap, couch drinks with the love, ball drops, kiss, and then it's 2006!

so yeah, that's basically it i think.

oh yeah - i'm thinking about moving to toronto. 15 glasses of wine per day? free?! sign me up.

cheers to beards!

i guess this explains the unseasonably warm weather we're having this year. (duh.)

with that said, yesterday was beautiful out. we went to the park and walked four miles. then we came home and sat on the couch for nearly 6 hours and watched tv, movies, played cards, and ate pumpkin pie and grilled cheese and tomato soup (in that order). i'd like to feel good about the walk, but somehow i think the couch time to miles walked ratio equals "lazy" no matter how you do the math.

today i'm supposed to work on some work. that's not too cool, and i have absolutely zero motivation to do so (for the 3rd day in a row).
it's also the "last nice day" before a string of cold days hit. 30's and snow? wha? that probably means i should get outside and do something.

you should do something too. it'll be fun.

late.

sup?

we're just chilling here, cooking for ourselves. got invited to several events/dinners, but we passed on everything to be lazy. good stuff. i got up at 9, watched some of that shitty parade (it's not even a parade for the first 45 minutes...just stupid musical performances) and then we cracked the mimosas. i moved on to coffee slightly before noon, and it was then that i realized that i picked up kahlua, not baileys. bummer. why'd they put that shit right next to the irish crèmes? bad call on the liquor store's part.

heather busted out the xmas stuff early this afternoon and got busy putting items around the house. we're not doing a tree this year as neither of us will be around - both wisco bound. but moms sent me a tiny tree last year and heather got that up and running. that's what we do.

it's nearly 6 and we haven't eaten yet. guess that happens when you don't put the turkey in until 3...actually i don't even remember exactly when we put it in. i could do the math, but i'm far too lazy for that. i'd rather spend that energy getting another glass of wine.

despite our initial plan to cook a small meal or get some takeout, we decided to do some full-on cooking again this year. baked up a pumpkin pie, cranberry sauce from scratch, green been thing, potatoes, acorn squash, stuffing, and the turkey thing.

so yeah, late turkey meal and then probably some movies or something.

happy turkeys.

november 23rd, 3:37pm, 67 degrees. damn gina! this weather is outstanding! well, not if you're into snow, but whatever. i'm kinda stoked on the warm. it's probably linked to global warming, which, you know, is bad, but you'll have that...the bad that is. you'll also have some good. in this case the good is me not working for four days. no, wait....the good is the warm weather. shit, no, that's bad...global warming.

regardless, i'm pretty sure i'm glad that it's nice out and i'm also fairly certain that i'm stoked about not working for 4 days...even though i'm taking work home with me.

sundays are so depressing. i get lazy. i drink a few beers. i get bored watching football. i fall asleep.

then it's dinner time. not a good day to cook...not usually anyway. tonight is chicken tenders and fries. based on my math, easy is good. (speaking of easy meals, anyone had this?)

then it's typically movie/tv time. tonight is shaun of the dead. i've owned it since it came out, but haven't watched it yet. i don't even know if it's "shaun" or "sean." probably the former. i don't think it matters that much though.

honest, i do want to be productive on sundays, but i think it's knowing that i have to go to work again the next day that kills me.

shit...forgot to put the fries in the oven.

but seriously what's up? seth all of the sudden has a G5 imac instead of the G4 imac? shouldn't that have been somewhere in the plot? i mean, it was obviously product placement (twice as the dean also had one). and marisa is such a fucking drama queen. all the fuss and then we get insight that the slut is "connecting" with the little surfer boy from the public school? isn't that the "wrong side of the tracks?" isn't that ryan's territory? wtf?! and summer, the one who essentially single handedly gets ryan back into school goes unthanked. bullshit.

so yeah, what else is going on? um...red hook changed their bottles. is that new? new to me anyway.

well halloween's done and done. hope you had some.

the last few years i've kind of rejected the idea of dressing up and going out, but this year i caved. we hit up monsters of mock at the ogden saturday. monsters of mock is a little 80's rock homage put together by the kids over at surburban home records. it was my first year and it was a good time. they had a metal karioki, a poison cover band and a guns and roses cover band. we went with lots of people and everyone dressed up...well, almost everyone. I've got quite a few photos that i really do intend on getting up here...honest.

on a random note...jose gonzalez...remember the post about that guy? yeah, he's gettin there. his version of "heartbeats" is used in that awesome sony bravia ad. if you haven't seen it, check it out here. i love it...makes me happy. check out the behind the scenes stuff too. very cool.

well i'm really not doing so well on the weekend plan to post more posts in two days than in the last month. actually, i haven't even calculated how many posts that'd be. i think it just seemed like a good idea last night after several glasses of wine.

anyway, here's number two.

plans for the day:

find a recipe for grilling tuna steaks for dinner tonight
go buy stuff to make a meal
go to home depot and buy something...not sure what yet
find some new prints for the wall frames
drink?
go to book store
put some more music on the ipod
hang photos?
print photos?
drink?

hunt mailman down and throw rocks at him (despite my polite request to leave magazines on the chair, he continues to stuff them into our mailbox...leaving me with ripped magazines.

so yeah, that's what i've got. it's already 12:30 and all i've managed to do so far is read some blogs, drink some coffee, make an omelet, and watch a cooking show. if that's any indication of how my day will go, i might as well throw away the "to do" list.

"but that's a good thing...i'm providing the world with more naked ladies." - london - suicidegirls.com.

i got my ipod today.

now note, normally, i'd want to talk about the ipod first, but that quote just struck me as smart. i mean, seriously, who wouldn' t applaud efforts to provide the world with more naked ladies? exactly. so i thought it should come before the declaritive statement. but, ironically (or not at all), they're related. you see...

so everyone who's paying attention knows that videocasting is here..well, video podcasting or whatever the hell you want to call it. one of the most recent to join the club - suicidegirls.com.

between the 19th and 20th, they've upped 10 videos featuring 10 different girls. "impress your friends" they say. "Free 3 minute sexy videos of the lovely SuicideGirls set to music and showing off their pin-up appeal. Show your friends, your mom, the girl next to you on the bus..." they say.

my whole point for posting this is that i decided to check it out and as soon as i watch the first video i hear mike doughty in the background. how funny. mike singing a little punk chick drinkin and nudeing song? not how i'd have picitured it, but whatever. too funny. actually, it's nothing like that. i'm not sure what song it is as i've never actually listened to the album (assuming it's from his latest) despite having it since the week it came out. it's just a song the chick probably chose to play during her little booby segment. just found it funny.

anyway, i got my ipod, and this is remotely ipod related, so i thought i'd share.

stick around for the "weekend of posts" as i attempt to post more in 2 days than i have in a month.

until then.

okay. long post time. go!

so brautigam came out for his long overdue visit. he actually had a conference out here, but flew out a few days early to drink, i mean, hang out.

the 3.5 days flew by, and there are a few foggy parts, but this is what i've got:

lots of drinks, four cities, buffalo bill's grave, a red rocks tour, a willy porter show at someone's house (can't even tell you how crazy that was), a 5 inch snowman, 10 meals in a row at restaurants (which is a lot for me and seems to do hell to one's body), a storyhill show at swallow hill (which is beyond coincidental that they played as the first time either of us saw them was 9 years ago in lacrosse), dirtbags, two double-decker busses full of flashing chicks (and some making out), and two breakfasts at annie's cafe.

well, not in that order necessarily, but whatever.

it was a great weekend, and i was dumb as shit on sunday after the drinks and whatnot. good times.

i've got some photos of both shows that might make the "photos" section if i ever redo this site. i've also got some video from the bus, but you don't want to see that stuff right? right?

music news: check out jose gonzalez. he's good stuff. i've only listened to the songs on his myspace page, and a few others i've found, but i like it a lot. (note: a little googling gets half the record and some live stuff.)

you'll be hearing more about this guy. guaranteed. nick drake comparisons have been plentiful up to this point, but he's much, much more than that (biased opinion of course).

the only thing i don't particularly care for is the vertical text all over his site (especially in the bio). who do they think will take the time to read that shit? fortunately, the same bio is all over the web. regardless, that's hardly cause for staying away and has absolutely nothing to do with his music.

infos:
my space site
jose-gonzalez.com

pick up his album, veneer, at the itunes music store or over here.

and in other music news: dj fuzzy wrecks the decks.

okay, we got the million dollar bed delivered yesterday and i can hear that soft, squishy, warm, sleepy thing calling my name. (note: i got 9 hours of sleep last night and was up at 6am!...i figure the earlier i go to bed, the more time i can spend all comfy and whatnot.)

don't slee.....er....go sleep!

just placed my order for the new 60 gig ipod. couldn’t resist. as i mentioned, i’ve held out for a long time. this latest update/rev seemed like the right time. went with white. black is best, but not on an ipod. you can quote me on that.

it won’t ship for like 5 days (and could take another 5 to get to me), but i’m pretty sure the cherry creek store doesn’t have them in yet anyway, so whatever.

in other news, brautigam is headed up to colorado tonight. that’s right…a “2/9ths of 314 west ave” reunion. surely someone will be selling tshirts touting the event…surely.

i took a vacation day for tomorrow too, so that’s extra nice.

we’re headed to colorado springs tomorrow night for a willy porter show at someone’s house. yeah, a house. weird, but should be great.

and that’s pretty much all i’ve got right now. so there.

well. new video ipods. slightly smaller profile, larger capacity, no price increase. looks like waiting actually paid off.

though i’m not overly impressed with the ability to watch music videos (1.99 a piece, available via the itunes store *2000 available right now), there are definite plusses to being able to put your own video on it. and the tv show/episode idea is decent(also available via the itunes store for 1.99 a pop), though again, not necessarily a highlight for me.

new imacs too.

and the fact that they came out with a remote (for the new imacs and any ipod that can use the docking station) is new and different. while i wouldn't sit around a 20 inch screen to view slideshows, watch movies, etc. i can definitely see hooking the dock up to your tv to show people slideshows, videos, etc. and be able to sit on the couch changing everything. don’t get me wrong. i used to watch movies when my imac was in my bedroom, it just wasn’t that great.

either way, i’m finally convinced that now is the time for me to pick up my ipod. was very close to getting a nano after heather got hers, but i expected other ipod updates before xmas, and i really didn’t think it would suit all the here they are. it’s go time.

and, yes, i’m a huge nerd. i spent the entire hour of the apple event hitting refresh on 3 different news sites and the apple store getting updates. NERD.

for example…right now, as i type this, i sit at my desk sucking down my 2nd pint of coffee while eating my breakfast. what is my breakfast you ask? vending machine donuts. second or third time i’ve had them in the last month.

i know, i know, you’re probably saying, “whoa, that’s like, so unhealthy” in your best mocking voice, but that’s just the beginning my friend.

i don’t exercise.
aside from walking here and there, i’m out. haven’t tried to run anywhere in several years. i’m pretty sure it wouldn’t work.

i don’t “watch what i eat.” i eat whatever i want. no holds barred. all the time. generally, this is okay as i don’t really eat fast food, my diet is primarily poultry and veggies, occasional red meat, etc. but when it involves bags of chips, chicken tenders and fries, bacon, pizza and ranch dressing, brauts, grilled cheese, etc., it is not. more so when these items are my meals of choice for most evenings.

i generally skip breakfast.
note: this is only during the work week and, in general, is slowly changing again. i’m getting on the peanut butter toast kick when i’m not pressed for time.

my diet coke to milk ratio is like 12 to 1.

i drink alcoholic beverages like it’s my job.

i’ve got computer legs.
i sit in front of computers all day. couple that with all of the above, and you’ve got a pretty not healthy camper on your hands.

with that said, i think i’m going to start doing something “healthy.” wait, that’s pretty vague. i’m going to start doing something “active” to make me feel like a normal twenty-something.

i’m not sure what this will entail. stay tuned.

ps. apple announcement at 10 am pacific, 11 mountain. get ready. that’s like 5 minutes. think ipods.

hi. today was nice.

that's it.

no, not really, but what if it was? would it be a lame post? are they all lame? is the word lame lame?

went to the denver video expo today in lieu of going to work. well, work knew i was going, but whatever. overall, there was too much "tech" and not enough "wowing" going on...says i. best part was the after effects demo. the photoshop demo was goods given that it focused on graphic prep for integration with ae. i think i've found inspiration again...in motion graphics. second best part was the espresso lady. free "anythings" at her cart. best.

i also discovered another nice surprise today- the winks. yes, chalk another one up for canada. whatever that's supposed to mean. anyway, check them out if you're in the mood for something fun/different/entertaining.

so there.

ps. the best thing about john darnielle (think mountain goats) is that he rocks the fuck out of his message board. 2377 posts as of this minute. that's impressive.

hey.

what’s up? it’s monday, i’m a bit groggy, yet i feel a post is over due. so this is what i’ve got…

wolf parade is not the new arcade fire. nor are they modest mouse or whatever else kids are saying. are they from canada? yes. fun? yeah, sure. is that all that matters? of course. apologies to queen mary comes out tomorrow. in honor of that, and the fact that komp ran a half-marathon yesterday…

you are a runner and i am my father’s son.

clap your hands say yeah’s popularity getting OC. no, not “O.C” (they’ve already passed on that offer)…i’m referring to the OC as in “out of control.” maybe “OC” doesn’t mean “out of control” but it worked for the played “O.C” bit, so whatever. regardless, i’m not letting that ruin this for me. i still like them and will continue to do so. the tour is about half done. just saying. but if in your town, you should go.

(note: i don’t go to concerts any more. apparently i’m an old lady. i skipped out on wolf parade because it was on a monday. pathetic. architecture in helsinki is tomorrow night. i’ll probably blow that one too.)

the war isn’t a hurricane, so it’s not in the news. but it’s still going on. why? exactly. stop it already.

in other news, i’ve still got the lazy. it allows me to eat, drink, and sleep, and download concerts, but outside of that, i’m kind of plagued.

so that’s cool.

oh yeah, fall is here. that’s kind of news right?

jeez, this is going nowhere.

oh yeah….well…nah, never mind.

late.

hi. are you old? i didn’t think i was, but i think i am. first, there’s the drinking. every time i go out drinking, my recovery rate is just re-frickin-rediculous the following day. and then there’s my back. this one kills me…literally. i mean, i don’t really have back problems, but i’m seriously considering spending way too much money on a good bed. i’m getting soft i guess.

so if i feel this way at 28, what does that hold for my future? not much man...not much.

moving on…heather picked up an ipod nano last week. so tiny. you’ll want one. if you just want something for music and need small/light for your “active” life style, pick that thing up. you’ll be happy you did.

i still think the 20 gig is deluxe in regards to the photo/camera options and speculation that the 20 will be replaced with a 30 – same price as current 20 – arose after the apple site displayed this info briefly after the site update last week. rumors only, but that’d be nice.

what else…um…the mum is flying out wednesday for a 5 day visit this week. i’m taking some time off of work. so a short work week. good food and relaxation here i come.

okay...here’s the dice. mac event. new products being announced right now. nothing 100% verified. the apple store isn’t even updated....at this time.

new version of itunes....we’re at 5 now..

the apple/cingular “ipod” phone finally released. only 100 songs. haven’t seen image yet..

and this…well i have to quote this…“Jobs spoke about new additions to the iTunes' audiobook collection, including the complete Harry Potter set. He also introduced a collectable iPod engraved with a Hogwarts crest -- Hogwarts is the school that fictional magician Harry Potter goes to.”.

so yeah, THAT’ll be awesome. a freakin harry potter ipod? save us..

speaking of ipods…new ipod nano to replace the mini line. color display, click wheel, 80% thinner than previous ipods…thinner than a #2 pencil..

more to come...

not only was don pendleton matching red cross donations (up to 1000), he was also was offering up free art/sketches with proof of a red cross donation of any amount after the inception of the announcement on his site. unfortunately, that only lasted about 36 hours. not that there should need to be any "perk" associated with donating...i just thought it was cool of him to do so. keep your eyes on his site, as he might offer it up again with a "more specific" charity.

anyway, the weekend was good. did “some stuff,” also did “not much,” and in the end i was ready for more.

we did make it out to the larimer lounge barbeque show saturday afternoon for george & caplin’s set and dollah miller high lifes. it was actually the first time i’ve seen g&c and they didn’t disappoint. it was kind of odd as there were only like 7 of us there really watching, but that made it even more appealing.

anyway, it was only like a 45 minute set (i could have geeked out to a 4 hour set), but some new songs were played for the first time and it was fun to watch their “experimental pop” music being made right in front of my very own eyes. i love the act of live looping, sampling, effect manipulation, and randomness. and george & caplin does this well. note: the use of a tea cup and saucer for a loop was best.

but aside from that best, the other best part – talked to jeff (1/2 of the duo) after the show and he gave us copies of electronic eulogy just for being there. super nice guy. and the fact that he just gave us copies of the cd…crazy nice.

note: i’ve decided that the best way to describe things today is to take the word “nice” and add another word or two to it as shown in the sentence above.

sub note: slight variation – use the word “best” multiple times.

if you’re not familiar with george & caplin, check out their site and their music. they’ve got info, mp3s, etc. up there.

don't sleep.

back. what’s up? what’d i miss?

first thing first, got the imac back. hard drive is okay. they replaced the logic board and the power supply. didn’t know about the power supply replacement, but it doesn’t surprise me. i guess, in the last two weeks, they’ve finally accepted the problems and have extended the 1 year warranty an extra 2 years. guess that kind of sucks that i bought the apple care, but whatever. it’s about time they fess up and recognize the issue.

second, sorry for blabbing on an on about that in the last few posts. it was important to me and kind of took over my thoughts.

third, adidas could have really done something with this. great idea. unfortunately, it only applies to the running, tennis, and soccer shoes from what i understand. correct me if i’m wrong. shell toe design would have been the way to go with that plan. speaking of which, anybody catch those beastie boys, never released, adidas that were on ebay the other week? crazy.

fourth, numbered lists are wack.

fifth (but i don’t care), ipod phone rumored to only hold 100 songs? pashaw. why bother?

and that’s about it.

ps. big news tomorrow? we’ll see.

bob moog died. how lame. (not to understate my appreciation for the man with such a trite statement.) how did this happen three days ago without me hearing about it?

i guess i'm a bit behind in the world.

i wonder what else is going on? probably lots of other stuff. things too maybe.

it's funny, now that i've finally got cable (all i really watch is food tv) and a dedicated wireless setup at home (note to previous neighbors: thank you oblivious neighbors, who do not understand what a password is), i'm on the computer less than ever. not having a computer does that i guess. or maybe because i get tired at like 10 now. which is a result of getting up too early. which is a result of a longer commute to work. which is a result of moving. which was the result of the love. which is directly linked to the girl. who, ultimately then, is the cause of me behing behind in the world.

yeah, it's worth it.

anyway, no news on the imac. probably sitting on a shelf. sigh. they could at least get back to me so i can finally know if my hard drive is gone as well. that is really killing me...not knowing.

i mean, if i loose that itunes library and those movies (not copied, created), and whatnot...wow, i'm gonna bum.

and yes, i learned the valuable lesson and i've since picked up a lacie 250 GB external for backups.

i guess i'll keep waiting then...patiently...waiting...still...wondering...

don't sleep.

i just wouldn’t…out of principle. that’s just the stupid.

with that said, i never hesitate to walk into a starbuxxx and buy a 2 dollar cup of plain old coffee. hipocrit? maybe. care? nope.

but if the concept of paying way too much for a bowl of cereal isn’t enough, rumor has it that the employees have to wear pjs. talk about trying too hard.

speaking of food…it’s 9:10 and it smells like chicken in my office area. lie, okay. in my “cube” area. and by chicken, i mean cooked chicken, not like living chickens. not sure what those smell like. regardless, i’m pretty sure smelling either this early in the morning is not normal.

speaking of not normal, joey p is changing his name to johnny utah. that’s the rumor anyway. if everything goes as planned, he’ll be out in cali, going undercover to bust bank robbers while learning how to surf. hopefully he’ll find a girl that doesn’t look like a boy to fall in love with. nothing about joey’s taste, but rather the movie. seriously, that short hair, small boy frame? sure she had pretty eyes, but come on. johnny, what were you thinking brah?

speaking of pretty eyes, my imac needs a new logic board. how fucked is that? guess it’s the norm with first gen g5 imacs. it all leads back to that stupid industrial espionage capacitor crap. lame lame lame. at least the 850 repair cost is covered by my warranty. very glad i picked up the additional apple care as well…sounds like i might need it if this happened in under a year. still no word on whether or not the hard drive is fried. will hopefully hear good news from apple in the next week. and yes, i realize this part had nothing to do with eyes.

speaking of nothing to do with eyes, it’s friday. leave work early and do something…or drink something.

peace in the east.

hey. been a while since the last post, but a move and a lack of internet will do that.

but...after 11 days, nearly 5 hours on various phone conversations with comcast, one trip to the "closed today for a picnic even though we told you to pick your f*ckin self-install kit today" comcast store, one trip to best buy to order comcast via them, 6 hours of vacation spent waiting for the comcast guy to troubleshoot our cable line (two trips, first guy never showed, claimed he did)....we finally have the cable internet up and i got the wireless network running as well.

about time.

unfortunately, my mac crashed monday morning and it's not looking good. won't boot up. black screen. nothing.

so now i get to spend hours on the phone with apple support to discuss this (from what i now understand) all too common problem with rev a g5 imacs, or i get to go to the apple store to drop it off.

best case: they replace a failed midplane or power supply (known major problems with my version of the imac) and things get back to normal.

worst case: it takes them weeks to order and fix whatever is wrong, or my hard drive crashed and i loose all of my music, photos, created movies/dvds, personal work, etc.

either way i’m not too happy. fortunately, the year warranty is good through september, so i just made it. actually, i have apple care too, so that’d cover me, but still.

okay, lots of drama there.

the move went well. things are kind of settled in the new place. lots of boxes in the basement still. one battle at a time.

if i can restore my mac, i’ll get the other sufjan videos up. no promises at this point.

sup?

i know i never got around to posting anything about the sufjan show, but i've been busy packing shite for my move. lots of sorting...man do i have large amounts of accumulated shit. (i know...shite and then shit...i'm mixing it up okay?)

anyway, i did write a brief and kind of blah review over at the all good naysayers board, which you can check out should you be so inclined. i also took some videos of the show, but they're not that great...still fun though. i'll work on getting them up here (for real!) in the near future. sample here.

also, a torrent of the show (flac format) surfaced right away over on cotapers.org.

big ups to the taper!

this site converted the show to mp3 and has a bunch of you send it links up right now.

i recomend the prior.

if you don't want to do either, but want a copy, let me know and we'll work it out. it'll probably involve holding hands, some wine, and the use of the word "romantical" but it'll be worth it.

back to the move. i don't even know if i'm moving this weekend or next weekend, but i started packing things and now i just want to do it all right now...my apartment is trashed and i can't walk in a stright line. and circling around the carefully stacked masses of stuff is getting old.

moving is great.

it's funny...i was just thinking about something very similar to this the other day. it was when i woke up one morning. i thought it'd be great to see street art or general correspondence move to electronic medium where you could post some digital message, on paper or something as micro thin, and leave it for others to read. the idea being that the media would be so inexpensive, or relatively so, that you'd be okay if someone took it. well, this isn't really *that* similar, but we're getting there.

it's kind of nice to think about something so potentially wonderful and creative before bed.

monday – i’ve never heard anyone praise monday like they do sunday. i’ve never heard anyone look forward to a monday like they do a friday. people don’t often get loaded on monday, like they do on saturday or thursday. monday doesn’t have a fun alternate name like wednesday (hump day). and then all you’ve got left is tuesday, and that’s pretty much just another “whatever” day. but even so, at least it’s not monday.

did you know that many cultures see monday also as an unlucky day, even as a day when people become insane. yup, it’s true.

so really, monday is plain crap. who’s with me? (besides those unnamed “many cultures.”)

weekend was good – kickball and pbrs for darin’s bday down at wash park on saturday, and then some more beers at karen’s new place downtown. i was a little wiped out sunday, but you’ll have that.

sufjan stevens is playing the bluebird friday night and i picked up tickets today. pretty stoked on that. not doing the le tigre show tomorrow, but that’s a good trade up in my book. very surprised that he’s actually swinging through town. stoked that it’s at the bluebird though. should be a good time for sure.

in really boring news that you could probably give a shit about – i’m getting my eyes checked out thursday. first time in over five years. how sad is that? here’s to hoping that i don’t have to get new eyeballs or anything weird like that.

ps. it's my birthday in 6 months...never to early to start on those items that require payment plans.

hi internetters. how is your day on the computer? is it hot as shit where you live? yeah, me too. stay inside on the netting web…the real world isn’t worth it today.

first post since last thursday i think. heather and i went camping up in aspen with matt and marian. had a great time. if one was to describe aspen in five words, one might choose these five words: ferraris, bears, congestion, hot, fakeboobs. (yes, for the sake of this post, fakeboobs is one word.)

i have photos that i’ll probably never post. just saying.

in other news, i decided to break the cycle today – no chipotle. i’m not saying i eat it a lot, but i eat it a lot. had lunch there the last three days in a row. on an average work week, i’m there three times...not including the weekends. historically, i don't think i've ever been there more than two days in a row. nor have i eaten two meals there in one day, but this week was different. this week i was feelin it. and then there was today. today i had a headache and didn’t want to deal with the heat, crazy parking lots, and people, so i went home instead and made some stuff. chipotle tomorrow? probably.

in really bad news, my hopes of opening a chipotle franchise back in the sauce were squashed today when i learned that they don’t do franchising. too bad. i could have been rich.

in fbi news, grindstyle.com’s favorite secret agent man is off doing pushup and leg lifts i think. something like that anyway. he sent an email, but i don’t remember exactly what exercises were noted. regardless, he’s still alive and he’s still in the program, and he’s still able to communicate with us regular folk. so that’s good. but they gave him a gun. that’s bad right?

guess that’s it for today. i leave you with a quote by the ever-popular, and very clearly defining mr. s komp:

“i am outty for the night...catch you on the flip side (tomorrow)”

maybe i'll post a few songs just so you can get stoked and get in on this...

kind of a lazy weekend planned as i'm *trying* to save some cash for drugs. no, not really, but trying to save.

was beat after work yesterday, so i stayed in to sleep. missed joey's going away party, but i'm driving down to denver to grab a bite with him today. can't believe "man about town" is about to be a secret agent man. that's the crazy. very cool though. grindstyle.com wishes him all the best.

2. avoiding heat stroke - it's hot here. 90's for the next week. long live ac.

4. looking forward to the weekend - though i have no plans (stoked).

5. reading - yup, back on the reading train. currently doing a.j jacobs "the know it all" and happy.

6. listening to - the digable planets reunion mixtape. it's fun. i won't get into how i didn't hit the show in boulder though...that'd just make me crabby.

7. currently thinking about - leaving work, watching the last episode of season one of the OC, and quite possibly the normal thursday rerun, and drinking wine. oh...and dinner too...decided on grilled peperjack and turkey on dill rye with mustard a la the thomas steen diner.

more some other time and stuff.

"Amid all this violence, I know Americans ask the question, 'Is the sacrifice worth it?' It is worth it. And it is vital to the future security of our country."

it's not just americans you jackass. it's the world asking the question. and i'm fairly certain we all disagree.

*steps off of very small soapbox and fills glass with more wine*

in other news, i picked up my 3rd O2 tonight. the first two, purchased from that crappy, crappy guitar center were shit in a box - broken and scratched, but sold as new. so i ended up ordering one via a smaller store in boulder. same price, more karma. even though i'm trying to watch my money in fear of layoffs, i feel it justified as i really haven't purchased anything over 50 bucks solely for enjoyment since the imac nearly 9 months ago. seriously, that's crazy isn't it? (note: that new ipod is looking pretty nice though...might be right around the corner.)

and on another unrelated note...i have no idea where my evenings go. i get off work, run an errand, come home, make a pizza, toss in laundry and before i know it, it's 9:30. that's no good man. no wonder why i stay up so late and barely get to work by 9. don't get me wrong, i enjoy going to work so late, but someone's going to say something soon about that. plus, i'd really like to feel like i "do stuff" after work and not just run through the motions of doing stuff before another day of work. does that make sense? does to me.

anyway, let's end this on a happy note as tomorrow is a new day.

you are beautiful.

hi kids. welcome to the first, and most likely last installment of friday music reviews. you see, while friday is still a day of work for me, it is also a day of music. and given that i got some new music last night, it just all makes sense.

this first post will cover – clap your hands a say yeah!

so i read all this stuff this week declaring how good clap your hands and say yeah are. i decided to find out. i’m listening to their cd right now and i’m way confused. people were making comparisons to the arcade fire and the talking heads, and while i assumed some slight resemblance, i had no idea that “slight” would be a major understatement in regards to the talking heads sound. in my opinion, it sounds way too much like the heads. like, to the point where i don’t get it. i like the sound, but it’s been done before.

granted i’m only on the third song. things could change. i’ll give them the benefit of the doubt for now.

i just spent the last 15 minutes reading some O.C. message board. i think i've hit bottom.

in other news, heather and i were able to find tickets to wisco that were under 450, so that's nice. we're going back for t-fan's wedding and have been holding off on tickets as they've been too expensive. well, that didn't change and there we were a week or so out with no tickets and costs from 4+. it was harsh. in the end, i compromised my vacation length, and she found an outstanding deal on tickets. mind you we're traveling to oklahoma, chicago, and then appleton, but at least the return flight is only via chicago. the things i do for tom fanning.

in important news, fanning is getting married in like 9 days! (or something, i can't count.) i haven't talked to him lately, but i'm sure he'd say something along the lines of,

"dk broiler - i'm so fucking stoked!"

so that's cool.

i'm looking forward to the wedding and then the reception. oh, okay...just the reception, but seriously, weddings are for the couple and the family anyway right? i'll drink to that.

getting back to the "ashamed to admit" news, it's thursday. you know what that means...back-to-back reruns of the OC. unfortunately, it's at the boring part of the second season and i really don't feel like watching. fortunately, i've still got 7 espisodes of season one to watch. speaking of which, i think i'm going to go get all stupid with that.

late.

annnnnnnnnnnnd it's friday! than you jebus. even though it's rainy and a bit gloomy today, i'm stoked. (photo from window at work)

woke up early today for some odd reason and got to work before 8. that hasn't happened in at least the last month. i've been 9 to 6-ing it (or 9 to later than 6-ing it) for some time now. it all started when we hit daylight savings. that messed me up. late to bed, late to rise. can't shake that cycle.

but i'm going to try.

but that's really boring info to be posting here i guess, so i'm done now. sorry.

in other news, you should really check out sufjan stevens if you aren't familiar already. i'm really liking the seven swans cd. i've only recently discovered sufjan, and haven't heard any of the earlier works, (that illinois project sounds interesting) but this album seems very familar to me in some weird way. maybe that's just a quality of good music - it is so good, and so familiar that it's like you've always known it. it just fits.

or not.

maybe some of the songs have been on those crazy, quirky, dramatic, teen shows on fox...or maybe on the OC.

the world is crazy anyway, so it really doesn't matter. all that matters is enjoying it (music, family, friends, life, coffee, etc.).

that's pretty crazy philosophical for a friday...let's move on to simpler concepts and thoughts shall we?

beer anyone?

don't sleep.

so i’m listening to the new shite stripes album right now while i work…oh snap, seriously that was a typo…not intended, but very telling i must admit.

anyway, i don’t think it’s “shite” or bad or anything, but it’s not outstanding either. it’s typical white stripes with, in my opinion, some attempt to add more…more what, i’m not exactly sure....maturity? defining style? variety? country? i’m at a loss as how to best describe it. and this is my first time through also. but there are definitely some catchy songs. or not. hell, i don’t know.

had huge work drama went down last week, but i didn’t really feel like writing anything about it at the time. here’s the deal - the company i work for was purchased by another, large, company. needless to day, i’m not sure if i’ll have a job in a few months after all the legal work goes through. kind of lame, but refreshing in an odd way.

i can smell pepperoni right now. that’d be cool if i was at a pizza joint, but i’m at work, so it’s just disturbing.
guess that’s it for now.

welcome back! *smile, hug, wet kiss*

that’s more for me than it is for you as i haven’t posted for a while. thought a pleasant return would be better than a sour receiving.

anyway, just want to go on the record with this next statement. a statement that many of you will find difficult to absorb…

i’m addicted.

yup, addicted to the evil of all evils…no not the OC (thought i’m currently battling that demon as well)…no not the sauce…nor the junk….but rather procrastination.

i am so fucking addicted to putting things off until the last minute. seriously. i’m near certain that it will be the death of me.

dentist appointments. eye exam appointments. paying bills. going grocery shopping. cleaning. doing the dishes. going into work on sunday to work. all of these things…these are things that i can not do.

but with a little help from a peer support group or some sort of jesus revival at a hippy camp in the deep, deep mountains…maybe i can be saved. i’m looking through the yellow pages as i type this.

and i’m fairly sure i’ll find something and will seek help…just as soon as i finish reading a few more of tour journal entries from the webulous peter peter hughes (! of mountain goat fame !)

i may be a few days late on this, but have you seen that paris hilton carl's jr. ad? um...okay.

i missed of montreal when they came to denver tuesday, but i'm sure it was goods. anyway, here's of montreal's cover of the shin's know your onion.

hi.

main point #1: i’m not sure, but i think i’ve got some allergy shit going on as of late. red, itchy eyese. sore throat (nasal drip?). artsy (colorful) snot and mucus. yes, it’s a fun, fun day indeed. and my appetite is out of control. hungry, hungry hippos.

main point #2: tonight, not only am i going to give you some ideas on what to do with your time if you're bored, i'm also going to give you links to help you do it. it's gonna be great. it's like random links and ideas on what to do all rolled into one great post of rambles. amen.

with that said:

maybe watch a nice dvd. or if you're hating on tv, look for inspirational ideas for your dream home instead. don't forget about the furniture. once you realize that you can't afford any of it, grab yourself an octodog and have yourself a good cry. and then get ready for the end. it's coming.

the end.

so yeah, the weekend was delux. matt and marian's wedding was great. it turned out to be a super great day for a wedding.

the reception was tons of fun too. good food, good beer, wine...never bad, great people, some AWESOME dance moves out on the dance floor (including some backspins and an awesome handspin by thomas), a few broken glasses, some eye-blinding streaking, and some more beer. it was the goods.

congrats you two!

that's all i've really got today. i'm tired.

finally got fatlip’s old “revenge of the nerd” stuff. stoked. and just because i love you, im’a gonna share fatlip’s “what’s up fatlip”. spike did the video for this song and it’s on his dvd. there’s this whole interview/behind the scenes making of the video with fatlip too, which is what got me into the song and fatlip in general.

his stuff is different…but in a good way. taken from the deliscious vinyl site:

Lip has used his shortcomings, weaknesses, and obsessions as fodder to drop rhymes with a unique style of wit and self-depreciation rarely seen in the macho world of hip hop.

apparently he’s got a new album dropping this summer…which, i think, is revenge of the nerd stuff and new stuff re-released or something. should be interesting.

anyway, it's friday, and damn is it NOICE out today! supposed to hit 91. actually, that's just too hot for this time of the year.

matt and marian are getting married tomorrow. it’s supposed to be another beautiful day, and hopefully the “chance” of showers will hold off. it’s an outdoor wedding up on flagstaff mtn somewhere. reception up in boulder. it’s going to be good stuff. thomas and kelly will be there too, so that’s cool.

if you're into the vinyl doll stuff...looks like myplasticheart is taking orders for the new gorillaz figures. and it totally unrelated news, looks like americans are getting even more wack.

enjoy the weekend.

so it's been a little over a year (according to a post i made a little over a year ago) since bart moved to japan. though we don't get to talk as often as we used to, from everything i've gatherd each time we have spoken, he's really liking it. so much, in fact, that he's extended his teaching contract for another year.

i drop him periodic emails to check in between his early-ass phone calls (don't stop hombre!) and for whatever reason, don't always hear much back. well not this time. okay, actually, he didn't really say much, but i think what he did say speaks volumes.

so this is what i got tonight.

despite my serious attempts to focus on work today, i’ve been listening to a bunch of music and working at a very european-inspired, leisurely pace.

so that’s cool.

listend to the new mountain goats album sunset tree 2 times this morning. i’m definitely liking it. but then, there aren’t many mountain goats releases i haven’t liked. definitely check it out.

also stumbled across “hippocamp ruins pet sounds” from a link on the NT board. i’m not going to get into the whole “pet sounds changed my life” stuff or even claim that it had anything to do with my life thus far. i own it. i don’t really listen to it. but i understand where the praise comes from. damn, i get off topic fast. anyway, what i’m trying to say is that i’m not going to dis the hippocamp remixes. i’ll just say it’s pretty interesting. not all of it, but worth a shot.

i’m on this crazy posting binge this week. it’s rather insane. (no, not really.)

went to a rockies game with my dad and little brother last night. it was great. we were in a suite given to his company for the night. free beer and food and leather couches. not bad.

we were right next to the coors suite. that made me think about the beer in our fridge. we had heineken, bud light, and coors light. then i started to wonder if the coors suite was only stocked with coors? i mean, what about people that don’t like coors? is that even fair? i mean, i know there’s no crying in baseball, but what about up in the suits? can you cry up there if they only have coors in your fridge? i thought about that for a while, and then i ate a hot dog. it was really good.

i think i may have damaged my ears today.

you see, typically i find that the best way to get through the work day is to listen to music. i listen to music probably 7 out of the 8 hours that i’m at work on a good day. it really helps. and on those days that work really gets to me, i find myself turning the volume up loud. sometimes really loud. it’s usually a progressive thing. mornings generally aren’t so bad, so you keep things relatively low. get a few crap emails or coworker interruptions and you up the volume a notch. get a phone call? yeah, up a notch. have to attend a meeting? two notches. before you know it you’re maxed out and it’s only noon.

today is one of those days.

thank god for music. i’m so serious.

speaking of music, here’s some for you. it’s mellow. maybe help you cope with your job today. maybe not.

okay, i know this is old news, but i just have to put in my two cents. the rollerskating ipod commercial with feel good inc. as the song? aw man, why? i really like that song.

now, as with any other song in a commercial, it will get played to death and i will cringe upon hearing it.

not trying to bitch, but that’s too bad.

but hey, if we’re going to kill the song, let’s kill it hard. download it and play the shite out of it this weekend. loud in your house, loud in your car, loud on your baby-momma’s boom box, loud in your convenience store, loud at the beach, and everywhere else. play it all day. make everyone love it so we can all hate it together.

feel good inc.

on a more positive note, it’s very much friday today.

unfortunately the shins show sold out last night before we could get tickets. more unfortunate, however, was the fact that i drove down to Denver, picked up the girl, drove to the venue, and paid for parking before i found this out. scalpers weren’t any help either. 60-80 per ticket for an all-ages shins show at the fillmore? umm….no.

a friend told me that they only played for an hour and it was too crowded. that made me feel better.

i think i’m just going to start making my own music and having my own shows. then people can come see me. it’ll just be easier for me.

i didn’t welcome tuesday into my life today. wasn’t really feeling it around 7am, so i went back to bed. when 7:30 came, i wasn’t any more receptive to the idea. finally 8am came around and i was able to tolerate it…barely. now i don’t hate Tuesday, per se, but just a non-fan of today. woke up with swollen glands and some weird bump on the roof of my mouth. more like a lump actually. not really sure if i should be worried or not, so i think that i’ll ignore it for now.

ever been to thejenvilleshow.com? if not, you should check it out. it’s a clever idea. even though i’m not a musician (by trade mind you), she should totally interview me. i make food all the time. i eat practically every day. crazy recipes, normal recipes, sketch meals, large meals, no meals….i really am the king of variety in the kitchen.

just last night, for example, i made an incredible feta, artichoke heart, tomato, spinach red-sauce pizza. it was deluxe. plus, i didn’t eat dinner until 9:30pm! (which is very “rock star” if you ask me). and then, this morning, i skipped breakfast yet again. just flat out said “screw it.” that’s just how crazy i am. cooking one minute and then just tossing the idea altogether. anyway, check out the site.

that's all i've got.

thanks to joe's good lookin out, we caught mix master mike at the loft above bar fly saturday night. wow. it was a crazy show. clocked in around 1:40 minutes from what i recall. got some video clips.

hello again. two posts in one day. hot shit.

i remember stumbling across this site that was about mix tapes...cds actually. anyway, the concept was simple. make a mix, send in a few copies, get a few other mix cds sent back to you. i'm sure there have been several sites that have done this or whatever, but whatever...i'm getting off subject.

anyway, i lost the url of the site and that was that. then, tonight, while reading the fecal, i stumbled across an interview with the guy that runs mixswap.net. now i'm not sure if this is the same site i found before, but it's the same concept. kind of fun. plus it's pretty free. he's not even asking for return postage at this point. pretty cool.

thought about doing this on grindstyle before (after reading the first site way back when) but let that go as i knew i wasn't responsible enough to send things back to people.

anyway, check out the site and give it a shot. let me know if you do.

http://www.mixswap.net

and one last note...mp3 blogs...they all link to each other and they all share the same music. i've been dl'ing stuff again recently and i find the same links to the same stuff on most all sites. ohhh arcade fire on kcrw? 4 shins shows? yeah yeah yeah rarities? "huge dex!" with dead links... and seriously, why must everyone use rapidshare or yousendit? so lame. with that said, it is nice that people share music. maybe i'll do the same in the future.

but my honest opinion...i think a lot of them are run, indirectly, by lables and promoters...or they get "incentives" to host certain mp3s for certain bands. another "sly" marketing tactic to infiltrate.

the end.

i’m not sure why it bothers me so much when artists take on mainstream, huge projects. i guess it’s knowing that it’s no longer something to covet …because all the little bopper sluts are in the know.

i realize geoff has been pretty “mainstream” for a while now. there was nike, the espn xtreme game ads, and i’m ashamed to admit that i did see that moron in that national lampoon movie wearing the “rockin on your dime” shirt.

whatever right? after all i didn’t know about this pepsi shite until today. if i were really in the loop, i would have known back in march when it was being discussed and some kids were already bummed.

so the nba all star events started last night in denver. you know what that means? that’s right..g’s up, ho’s down…no wait, i’m not really sure what that means. what it means is that i’m go’n be rollin wit all my hommies n’da clubs...ya-yeah!

actually, no...no that was a lie.

it means that traffic will suck, denver bars will be packed, famous celebs, so called “rappers” and ballers not talented enough to be in the game will be drinking cris while snorting lines off of fake boobs, and more money will move through town than i’ll see in my life. there are quite a few parties in town over the next 3 days. check out the list here or the some of the party fliers here.

so what's the good thing about all of this? ( yes, there is a "good thing") - the diabolical (yes that’s right…mr. biz markie) is djing so many parties that it’s sick. he’s all over this joint. so that’s cool. should be a good time for the kids at those parties. i’ll probably drink cheap wine and listen to music in my apartment or something, but you know, good for those in attendance.

in "hey, give give us a fun link" news…stumbled across some video of qbert on his qfo down at the soiled dove from back in 2004. (flash required to view). the site has other videos (quannum tour stuff) and a bunch of mp3s…so dig around.

in movie news, watched the director’s cut of donnie darko last night. for those of you that have never seen this movie, do it. and while i don’t want to disappoint those of you that like the movie, the director’s cut is not what i was hoping for. there are some additional scenes and some adds that are supposed to “clarify things” from the director’s point of view, but in all honesty, i liked the movie better before i heard all of the director’s ideas behind it.

note: i didn’t listen to all of the commentary track as it got so so annoying…the reason? kevin smith (of mallrats fame) does the commentary with him. he’s so obnoxious. yeah, so that kind of sucks. there might be some good info in there that i skipped because i got sick of smith ruining the track.

there are some extras on the second dvd that are okay. maybe i’ll write more of a review some other day.

in "it's friday" news, it’s friday. so that means the weekend is almost here.so have some fun ok? ok.

hi kids and welcome to wednesday…it’s hump day you know.

pretty stoked, not because it’s hump day but because i just found out that some of the art from beautiful losers show has made its way to andenken - a denver art gallery that i was totally unaware of until like 30 minutes ago.

the exhibit opened on the 2nd but is open until the end of march or something. excited to go check out works by andy Jenkins, evan hecox, ryan mcginness, ed templeton, tobin yelland, geoff mcfetridge, as well as a bunch of local talent that’s been added to the exhibit.

(note: i was going to link all those artists, the venue, and the original show, but got way too lazy. goggle’em if you’re interested.)

in other news, i bought some mild cheddar cheese last night. sure, sounds normal to you, but this is the first time i’ve bought cheddar cheese in nearly…oh i don’t know…9 months probably. serious. i typically buy that huge-ass block of pepper jack from sams club. granted, i buy other cheese here and there (feta for salads and pizza, mozzarella, parmesan, etc.) but for general consumption (grilled cheese, omelets, sandwiches, etc.) it’s basically pepper jack for me.

so that’s cool.

i saw social distortion last friday down at the fillmore. it was fun, but not very punk rock.
just saying.

got an email from fanning today and he mentioned that he noticed the slight site change. so apparantly at least one person is still checking it out. slowly working on elements for a full site update..or at least bringing back some features, photos, and maybe some video. it’s actually happening behind the scenes, but won’t probably surface for a while. not that you would actually expect me to ever do anything after a year of promises that have failed to materialize. it's better this way. no pressure..

oh…yeah…read this yesterday…food for thought…

i'm sitting at my desk eating a 4-day-old, dry as shit, chicken breast out of a plastic sandwich bag. the thing isn't even cut up at all. just one large chicken breast.

now don't get me wrong...i love chicken, but this has gotta be the most ghetto lunch ever. i don't even have anything to dip the chicken in. just chicken in a bag.

initially i was thinking that i'd run out for lunch today, but i realized that i probably have to leave work early to drive in traffic to go to to denver to pick my car up from the body shop...a car that was supposed to be ready last friday but wasn't. what was i saying? seriously, i get off topic so damn easy.

oh yeah, it's valentines day, so happy valentines day. if you're a lover, love. if you're a hater, hate. whatever makes you feel good.

just doing some before bed web watching. isn't it a crazy thing? so much info. too much info. i hardly know where to begin and i'm just talking about my daily site visits.

i think i could sit around all day doing this. that's the sad part. the happy part, or the good part (if you will) is that so much is readily accessable for inspiration.

i wonder what my ideal job would be? i think about that a lot. i have too many scattered interests right now. think i need to hone in on something. yeah. that's a goal for this year. just saying.

so that's my thought for tonight.

i'm listening to son ambulance right now. heard? check it out.

okay. sleep n'ot.

my progress has been progressive i guess.
you could say that i’m actively acting progressively on my progress.
or not. i’m fine either way.

no real anything to report today.

i see that the guilt trip forced a recipe submission in the comments section. nice. that's probably the first time that's ever worked.

since anyone reading this probably wouldn’t see the recipe hidden down there, i’ll post it.

I have recently come across an excellent recipe for dijon roasted potatoes. Cut up a bunch of potatoes, mix up with 1tbsp EVOO, 1 tbsp dijon mustard (I, of course, prefer grey poupon), 1tsp of paprika, dash of sea salt. Roast uncovered for 45 minutes until done.

dear anne: the taters sound great, though i question how many know what EVOO stands for. this, of course, was no problem for me...as i’m so damn handy in the kitchen…but that goes without saying i guess.

i think the last recipe anne gave me (last year?) was for some balsamic rosemary potatoes…lost that recipe, but it was very, very good. pretty sure it was just balsamic and rosemary and some oil…oops…i mean, “EVOO”.

also received this morning were a few tasty recipes from brauts. i’ll share those as well… thanks to both for the recipes.
don’t sleep.

Green Chile Quesadillas
2C (8oz.) Shredded Cheddar
1 Can (4oz.) Diced Green Chiles
1/2 cup Whole Kernel Corn
1/4 Cup sliced Green Onions
10 (6-inch) fajita-sized flour tortillas
Salsa (optional)
Cilantro (optional)
Sour Cream (optional)

Combine Cheese, Chiles, Corn and green onion in medium bowl. Spread 1/3 cup cheese mixture onto one half of each tortilla. Fold tortilla in half. Spray large skillet with nonstick cooking spray. Cook each side over medium-high heat until golden brown and cheese is melted. Cut each tortilla in half, serve with salsa, cilantro, sour cream.

Garlic Shrimp
1-2 lb. Shrimp
1/4C Olive Oil
¼ C. Parsley
3 Cloves Garlic (minced)
½ tsp. Red pepper
¼ tsp. Black pepper
¼ C butter (melted)
½ C bread crumbs
½ C grated parmesan cheese

In a 13 x 9 pan, place shrimp and pour olive oil over. Mix parsley, garlic, peppers. Sprinkle over shrimp. Cover and bake @ 300 degrees for 15 minutes.
Turn Shrimp over, drizzle w/ butter, sprinkle with bread crumbs and cheese. Bake uncovered for 10 minutes, then serve.

Parmesan Crusted Asparagus
1 TBSP Olive Oil
Shredded Parmesan
Black Pepper
Balsamic Vinegar

Preheat oven to 450. Layer Asparagus on baking sheet. Drizzle w/ olive oil and toss. Sprinkle with parmesan on top (no set amount). Bake in top 1/3 of oven until Parmesan melts and asparagus is tender. (approx. 15 minutes). Remove and season with pepper. Drizzle balsamic vinegar over asparagus and serve.

hi, i’m eating better. that’s right. i’ve been making some decent meals lately… thanks to none of you. not one single person gave me a recipe to try out. wow, talk about no love. brauts came close by telling me what he made for dinner one night…but that doesn’t really count.

that’s okay, i probably won’t be there to help all of you out either…like when that kidney fails, your fish dies, or whatever. we’ll be even.

last night i decided to whip up some incredible food for lunch today, but unfortunately had to go and kill it by adding too much soy sauce. she’s such a tasty, but deadly little sauce. my brown rice, chicken breast, veggie mix delight was practically a salt mine after sitting around in the fridge all night.

i still ate it all though.

okay, lunch is over. get back at it.

i really don't know why i'm up. i started cleaning my bedroom tonight to eliminate "stuff" as to gain "nothing" as sort of a minimalistic approcah to bedroom living. it's been interesting. i moved quite a bit out into my living room, and while the bedroom is shaping up the living room is getting a bit trashed. it's funny how a little pile of "stuff" can turn into a big pile of "shit" before you know it.

my bedroom is very white. maybe i'll take a photo some day. yeah, you're right...probably not.

random piece of info: this is pretty much dead on in my opinion...check it out.

i should probably get to bed soon. actually, no, shit no. tomorrow is sunday. what do i have to do? exactly. a movie at the most.

this post was pretty pointless. thanks for playing along.

you know how i posted about my plan to save the world at the end of 2004? well i have it, but unfortunately i don’t think people are ready. based on the last presidential election, people are out of their heads with the dumb, and my plan to save the world would be wasted if explained at this time. we need more smart. we need an environment conducive to change. i don’t think we can wait four more years, but right now just isn’t right.

so instead of sharing this info, and effective today, i’ve decided to focus on dropping “other” pearls of wisdom. insight, predictions, and things of that nature. you might be wondering how this is different from last year. good point. i’m always dropping science. this year, however, i will try to share more of it with you.

anyway, i’m going to start off with my prediction for spring fashion trends. now, i'm not going to pretend that i know a lot about this stuff. those of you that know me can attest to my, um, humble approach to style…if you want to call it that. and i also realize that it's still winter, but just as the other prophets, i’m ahead of my time with this one…

when i woke up today, things felt different. i can’t explain whether it’s a good or bad different, just different.

my apartment was nice and warm when i got up…allowing me to walk around in my underware. that was good.

i ate breakfast for the 4th day in a row. that was good.

the guy on the 1190 morning radio show (college station) was still annoying, but not as annoying as he usually is. i think that was good.

there was a heavy frost last night and everything looked great while driving to work. that was a good.

i listed to good music on the way to work.

i got stuck at a red light because the person ahead of me drove slow, but fast enough to make it through the yellow. that usually pisses me off, but today i let it go. i’m pretty sure that’s good too…

the funny thing is that it doesn’t feel like one of those “fuck yeah! i’m so on!” days at all. i still feel a big groggy and sleepy. i’m very mellow. it’s almost dreamlike.

hmmm.

a few comments about new two new products:

ipod shuffle…it’s just another way to capture more of the market. i’m not sure what i really think yet. part of me says “drop another 150 and buy a real ipod” but part of me also says, “hey it’s cheap, and easy, and why are you talking to yourself?”. i’m still out on this one.

mac mini…again, another way to convert the crowd/gain more market share. smart. specs could be a bit better imho.

i like the portability aspect of it. it’s like an office in your backpack. even though it’s not marketed that way, i see it as an option. going home for the holidays, bring it along. as long as you’ve got a monitor to plug into and a mouse and keyboard, you’re golden.

you’d have to go superdrive and up the ram a bit and add Bluetooth and the airport extreme card…and that puts you at 900. plus you’re still stuck with a G4 processor. at that point, you’d be better off buying the imac.

but if the goal is to convert pc folks, the off the shelf version should be enough to convince to them to switch.

also, if you’re considering buying either, or if you're a mac whore…check this out.

in other news, summer where the hell are you? i’m ready for winter to be over. just not into it this year. i definitely think i’d be okay living in a warmer climate.

sign me up.

canned potato soup and saltines is no way to live life. just saying.

this is just my thought after looking at my diet for the last 10 days. and no i’m not referring to a “diet” diet, but more so what i’ve consumed as meals.

basically, with the exception of two great meals this past weekend with the girlfriend, i’ve been eating like a 12 year old for the past 11 days. it’s like i’m not capable of making full meals or eating vegetables or anything of that nature. lots of canned soup. pre-packaged goods. some cereal. a few eggos…probably a few frozen pizzas. items that are fine when part of a balanced diet, but things that one wouldn’t typically classify as a meal when it’s the sole item on the menu.

and you know how when you don’t eat very good, you don’t feel very good? yeah, i’m there.

so i’m looking for some good and easy food stuff to make. if anyone has any tips or advise or simple recipes, i’d appreciate it. i'm just so sick of everthing i've been eating...turkey sandwiches, burritos (not really sick of those, but trying to cook more), pizza, chicken tenders and hot sauce, eggs, grilled cheese...new food is needed.

right now i’m thinking crock-pot chili or some kung pow chicken with broccoli. but that’s all i’ve got.

i need some meals, snacks, breakfasts, etc. mostly of the healthy variety. though i typically eat pretty well, eating “better” (aka “healthy food stuff”) is one of my unofficially declared new year resolutions.

email me…food(at)grindstyle.com with anything you’ve got.

hey kids. wecome to 2005. it's nice isn't it?

the last few days have really moved. it's thursday tomorrow. can you believe that? crazy.

new years eve was really great. thomas and kelly's wedding was insane. wait, the wedding wasn't actually "insane" in that sense. the wedding was nice. they did good. said things. and kissed to make it real.

the reception, on the other hand, was insane. the broadmoor hotel is awesome. i've never seen such a lavish joint. the food was crazy good. and let me just say this...and i'm not trying to take away from the event itself, but this needs to go on the record...6 hours of open bar...possibly 7. yes, that's right. it was top shelf city. really, the whole thing was beautiful and we had a great night. big thanks to t and kelly for everything. way to get married and stuff.

the sick that i was feeling prior to the wedding really mutated into some super lame sick that hit me saturday. and no, it wasn't hangover related..not for me anyway. the girlfriend didn't do so well, but that's another story. we managed to spend about 8 quality couch hours that afternoon and ate small meals of pizza throughout the evening. even after all of the lazy, the sick hit with full force sunday... so hard that i was out monday also. haven't had a full sick day (like call in sick) in close to three years. as far as i remember anyway. guess that isn't saying much. whatever. things are now fading and i'm coming back together. hopefully be back by the weekend.

what else?...my car got fucked in a wind storm the other week...don't think i mentioned that. we had wind up to 90 mph by my place and my car got pummled by the shit they throw down on ice out here. they call it "sand" but it's more like miniture boulders. the entire left side of my car...body, windows, rims, part of the hood and trunk...all got blasted and have tiny chips and nicks. it's so stupid i want to yell. insurance is trying to take the low road with their estimate, so the repairs should be interesting. i'm sure i'll be bitching here when i get around to taking the thing in for body work. stay tuned.

so yeah, that's about it. well, not really, i've still got the whole "save the world" thing to talk about, but i'm sick of typing now.

sleep not.

well that silly new year is just around the corner - minutes away practically. well no, but hours. (and hours are so made up of minutes...so there) .

and you know what's so great about the new year? this year will be different. this year will be the haute. this year will feature all kinds of incredible stuff that will make all the other years seem just goofy. this year will be it. if for nothing other than it's an odd year and "two thousand and five" is pretty fun to say...more so than "two thousand and boring four" anyway.

this year, all joking aside, i'm going to save the world. it might be difficult, but i've got a few ideas. get ready, i might need your help.

but i'll worry about all of that tomorrow. for the last few hours of 2004 i'll be drinking g&t's at the broadmoor hotel. thomas and kelly are getting married today - dinner and reception at the broadmoor. shit, i even bought a suit. how crazy is that? the girl and i got a room for the night at the place, so we're free to get as looped as we want - no driving. (yes, the girl is back after 2 weeks. while i'll admit that not shaving has been nice, i'm stoked that she's finally back. )

unfortunately, the only thing that poses any real threat to an evening of bliss is the sick. i'm still trying to kick it. the raw nasal cavity and sore throat have about 6 hours to go away. in efforts to make this happen, i've been drinking as much coffee as possible this morning. so far i'm just really jittery and i swear that i can hear a buzzing noise. that's gotta be a good thing i think.

so yeah, that's it. the last post of 2004. i could write something insightful or meaningfull about the year and what i've learned, but i won't. it really wouldn't matter anyway. wisdom is only words - thoughts based on the author's point of view. which means that that everything is biased, skewed, and totally useless to everyone but the author.

on that note, be sure to visit grindstyle each and every day to read the shit i mumble about.

have fun tonight and remember...don't sleep.

oh man. woke up with a sore throat today. and sometimes you wake up with sore throats and they disappear by lunch…not today.

and my nose runs every time i bend over. i’m not sure why i’m bending over so much, but until you have a nose that runs every time you bend over, you really don’t realize how often you bend over. when you get a drink of water from the fountain, when you tie your shoes, when you plug in cords, when you smell the knees of your pants…i don’t know, all the time really.

it’s just my luck too. as new years is a few days away, it goes without question that either the girl or i will get ill. last year i was off…seems this year i might be on. unless i can kill off whatever is causing the sick. as i have tomorrow off, alcohol seems the obvious route, however i’ve heard rumors (ugly, ugly rumors) that alcohol only makes things worse. quite the dilemma i face.

wait, maybe the real solution here is to ignore the problem. if i can just pretend that it isn’t happening, maybe i can postpone things until after the holidays. we’ll call this one plan b. tonight i’m shooting for plan a – a bottle of wine.

at work again today. wasn’t ready for work this week, but it’s so chill around here that it’s really not a big deal. it’s almost nice to be in this environment and not feel so “crazed” whatnot. i need a bit of this to get me ready for next week – a week i have dubbed “holy shit we’ve got a lot of work to do and we’re understaffed and how the fuck are we going to get it all done?” week. should be hot. maybe 2005 will be the rebirth of all the hippies that died in 2000? or maybe a huge hippy culture will rise out of the ashes of the hippy yesteryear? or maybe those last two sentences were so similar that they were actually the same?

could be, but i doubt it. hippies are dirty and dirt is still out i think. so is “clean” and all that prep shit. put the collar down son.

28 years ago, on this joyous day of December...little scotty kompy was born.

and his mother and father were proud.
and his sister and brothers were excited.
and his neighbors were full of cheer.
and the movie rocky came out...well maybe not on that day, but that year.

and little scotty kompy knew deep in his heart that one day he would emulate the moves of sylvester and a young carl weathers...all in hopes of seducing a talia shire of his own.

yes...it was a day of the ages. a day to remember. a day of celebration. a day without fighting. the day the music died...no wait...that was something to do with that American pie song.

either way, it was a miraculous day of joyous celebration of gayness and festivous and what have you.
and to you champ, rocky, scooter, poder number 2, deuce, poopsie, Charlie, hater k...i say cheers.

happy birthday komp.

handsome boy modeling school is back…but is it as good as the original?

picked it up saturday night. listening for the first real time now. not too sure how i feel about some of the guest artists…jack johnson? on the HBMS cd? um….okay.

the track with del and barrington levy is goods, but that’s the first single…it better be good. (i’m sure the video is on mtv…i don’t have cable.)

cat power also makes an appearance, and while this song is nice, it’s seems to be a hard attempt to recreate “the truth”(roisin/j-live ) vibe from the first album…which is impossible might i add.

pharrel williams track is wack…just cuz that guy is so wack.

DAS from black sheep is on a track…it’s pretty haute.

there are numerous skits on this one, including this whole dating game thing. parts are funny, but a bit forced…and this leaves less room for music.

the father guido sarducci outtro is over five minutes long …and not as funny.

despite all of the guests on rock and roll could never hip hop like this part 2, it’s not as hot as i’d hopped…in fact, it’s long…and boring. and the guy from lincon park? jesus, come on guys. coming in at over 7 minutes long, the only good bit is the second to last minute of the song…and that’s due to qbert…

to make my point, if you are as excited as i was when i saw the new album at the record store, you should really hit the website and listen before you buy. with over 4 years between records, you’d think chest rockwell and nathaniel merriwether could have done better. maybe if they wouldn’t have spent so much time on the photo shoot or video for their website (yes, there is finally a website http://handsomeboymodelingschool.com) and focused on better guests and better songs, things would be different.

i think the few winners are easy picks, and the losers….well the losers are easy to pick as well…and there are quite a few on this one.

note: mind you this is based on my opinion after listening to the CD once…at work…so i wasn’t paying too much attention. i really hate to give opinions without giving something a second chance, or time to grow on me, but my gut reaction tells me that it just ain't the same...and that's a shame.

whistling is weird isn't it? i mean, just saying, but it seems like it's something that we wouldn't do if we could play some really loud, distorted bass that would shake our neighbor's floor. well apparently that's exactly what my neighbor thinks and he is in full favor of the bass option. i wish he would reconsider whistling as an option though...i really do.

anyway what else is new? my hands hurt when i type. must have typed a whole lot today or something. interesting.

i've been rubbing my eyes a lot lately. it feels so good when you just get in that eye-rubbing zone and just rub rub rub. who cares about the red that follows. who cares about seeing stars...i mean, that's even kind of enjoyable and fun. a little movie in the middle of the day (or night as in my case).

i think i'm going to make some chili in the crock pot tonight. yup. turkey chili. not that i haven't eaten enough turkey in the last 4 days (thanksgiving, leftovers last two nights, turkey sandwiches with deli turkey the last two days for lunch...). i'm really into poultry i guess. had a huge run in with chicken breasts the week prior to thanksgiving, and was really into chicken tenders with my buffalo wing hot sauce the past month too. it's all so weird considering that i think birds should die (see previous post). actually, maybe that makes perfect sense...it's pretty hard to eat birds if they aren't dead. but then again, tainted birds won't make for good eats no matter how much hot sauce you add.

i ate broccoli and cheese and a bowl of cereal for dinner with some gatorade.

ever listen to the album leaf? you should start. sometimes not hearing words is great. especially after a long day at work.

and this concludes random thoughts post.

don't sleep.

back from the mountains. it was a good trip. all the food turned out pretty damn good. unfortunately i ended up getting kind of sick later that night and it's still with me today. not sure what's going on, but it's a bunch of the lame...flu-like symptoms. problem is that it's not full on 100% sick. seems to come and go. and despite the girl's warning to stay away from foods that aren't sick person friendly, i'm drinking coffee again today. it's not helping, but damn if i can get off it. it's like smack to me.

the great thing is that today is only saturday. almost two days left of the vacation. so that's either two days to be sick or two days to recover depending on how you look at it. unless i have the bird flu...(keep reading).

read this article and go blind!! well, not really, but does anyone see the irony here?

oh yeah, please everybody, kill your birds. "There is no reason to believe that we are going to be spared."

guess that's it. started this post at 10:30am...it's now 1:56. more stuff has happened. still don't feel good. day is almost gone. i have yet to do anything but try to eat...and visit the bathroom. repeatedly. seriously, kill those birds.

so far so good. no fires, no kitchen injuries, just good cookin and whatnot. i actually did bake a pumpkin pie yesterday...and made the cranberry orange compote stuff - from scratch! how crazy is that!? damn i'd make a fine wife.

woke up with a pretty big headache this morning. apparantly the girlfriend and i can still drink. beers, bloodies, and gin and tonics. couple that with a few games of trivial persuit and you've got a good call.

the tv is on in the other room. the parade is over. i saw the end...i saw santa. what a way to start the day. skip all the crap and just get right to the main event.

now football. just a quick question - who names their son payton? that's the chick's name from one tree hill. she's been having issues with coke on the show. she's in highschool and hangs out with this guy and they do lines. well, maybe they just did it once. but the episode i saw, he gave her some coke and she had it in her purse and she really wanted to get fucked, but she didn't and then she was going to, so she got some lines up on a cd and then she looked in the mirror and then she threw the cd at the mirror and then she started crying i think. what a show.

pretty much rambling right now. i'm also drinking coffee. it's good. just saying. almost time for mimosas though. and then the rest of the cooking. it's go time.

don't sleep.

got up early today. not sure why. generally speaking, the first day of vacation is reserved for sleeping in. guess i'm crazy like that.

so i'm here drinking coffee, writing this, freezing my ass off (bedroom is a freezer this morning), and thinking about the day. need to finish packing up things so i can get up to the mtns. need to haul up a bunch of food for tomorrow...including one frozen turkey. seriously, how the hell is this thing supposed to be ready by tomorrow? it's solid as shit. the drama begins...

don't sleep.

5 days of vacation? yes please.

yup, that’s right. today is my last day of work for the week and i’m moving on to better things thanks to my “buy 1 get 4 free” vacation. taking one vacation day to go along with two work paid vacation days coupled up with a weekend. how friggin hot is that?

i’ll be up in the mtns house sitting at my pop’s place, which will be deluxe. nice little getaway - relaxing, reading, chill with the girlfriend, hiking? snowshoeing? drunk-ing? yup. all possibilities. oh, also doing a bit of holiday cooking. could be a huge success or a major flop. here’s the menu as of today…

Turkey with Herbes de Provence and Citrus
Mashed Potatoes & Gravy
Fresh Cranberry Compote
Green Bean Casserole
Stuffing
Fresh Pumpkin Pie
10 bottles of wine

might add more wine. i realize that there will only be two of us, but still.

don’t sleep.

i think i was in a funk yesterday…and confirmed, possibly depressed.

is that possible? confirmation of a possibility? whatever.

today i seem to be happy.

shit, maybe i’m manic or something…bi-polar? damn…that’d be kooky. i think the winter months do this to me.

funny thing is that it’s not even winter yet…technically that is. it’s cold out here and there has been snow, so that counts to me.

whatever. if you’re a doctor, call me. if you have pills, call me. either way, it’ll work out.

in other news, hotmail finally made the move to 250MB boxes…about time. no one ever sent me an invite to gmail, so i guess i’ll stay with hotmail until that launches. what’s the date on that?

what else?...um…my hair is long - relative to it’s usual state of shortness that is. i stopped putting stuff in it. now i just let it be and it’s mostly-to-absolutely awful i’m sure. haircut tonight is a definite possibility. that or a bottle of wine. one of the two.

guess that’s it. i’d tell you all to enjoy friday and your weekend and all of that, but some of you might not be in the states and it could very well be Saturday already. so wishing you a happy friday would be stupid and pointless at this point. just saying…

today…it’s no good man.

it started right from my waking moments…

got too much sleep. didn’t want to get up. it was freezing in my apartment.

my plants seem to be dying.

drove to work, right past a woman by her car on the side of the road - didn’t stop to ask if she was okay. karma will surely be the death of me.

got to work and people aren’t working here….they are talking. they’ve been talking for nearly 45 minutes now. work is not slow. we are busy. i am very busy. people sit around talking. it kills me.

our director walked in our room. said hi to the guy next to me, the guy that was talking, but not me, the guy that was working.

holidays are approaching. i have no money. i have bills. i have no cheer.

i need to get a cavity fixed. i need to get my eyes checked. i need to find out why i get these awful headaches.

and despite the fact that tomorrow is friday, i feel nothing.

is this some sort of early winter depression? it’s awful.

new Orleans was outstanding. outside of that i don’t have much to share. i mean, seriously, it was a bachelor party. those things just aren’t talked about with everyone. if you were there, you were stoked.

at work now checking the status of the imac – it shipped 4 days early and this is seriously going to fuck everything up in regards to delivery. long story, but it’s shipping to heather’s school…and they happen to be on fall break all next week. sweet. after 3 delivery attempts, it goes back to apple and they give you a refund (so i read). if i have to wait another month to get that thing…hell no.

i've recently adaped a very "communal" approach to life and living and whatnot. it’s so great. i share everything i own with everyone. i also hug almost everyone i see. no more of this “me, me, me” bullshit – i’m all about lovin you and your mamma or your baby’s mamma for that matter. sure, we can hold hands while we eat our organic cobbs of corn and dance in circles to tribe music. sure you can have a backrub sister. yes, i’d greatly appreciate one of those cold, freakishly expensive micro brews you are drinking brother. me casa es su casa and …..oh my hell no…who am i kidding? i'm still very self-absorbed, just thought i should post something since it’s been so long.

fridays are as great as gin. you can quote me on that one.

oh yeah, forgot to mention that part of the "busy" that i've been subjecting myself to lately consisted of the filming of the sequel to "skippin out on vip tix" with sler. what's skippin out on vip tix? damn son, sorry you have to ask. let me just say this...this year we had a slider bar and i was wearing my own shoes. rumor has it that joe really threw down the hammers and i was pretty much hung over and blowing it, but that's just the rumor right now. also the sequel might not be as long as it's predecessor, but hell, who cares? just the thought of a sequel should be enough to make you giddy as a school girl on a bus full of strippers. (and yes, school girls do get giddy when on busses full of strippers so please don't ask or email.)

i actually haven't reviewed much of the footy from the shoot, but i'm sure it's as awesome as the original.

and another part of the busy was eating at santana foods. for those of you not in the know, santana foods (7th and University - mpls mn) is just fucking unreal. best french fries ever man. we tried to hit up the new santana foods (same name?) but they don't serve food until late afternoon/evening. glad we went to the original though because i actually talked to the scary guy (yes, the one from the photos with the guns and stuff) for like 5 minutes. super friendly. talked my ear off about how spices are good for the body and stuff...it was pretty goofy. if you want to hear the lowdown, just ask him what is in the greek seasoning. tell him that the "kid from colorado that flew to minneapolis for the weekend and had to stop by santana's for the fries" sent you. he'll be stoked - we're like "this" now. so in. (as per usual, i have a lot of photos, but probably won’t post them because i’m too damn lazy.)

i could go on and on today about how i also made it out to Tubbs (a.k.a Tuggs) and saw t-fan and bulldog while in mpls, but i think i'll stop and get focused on the fact that it's friday and i'm stoked.

sup in the hood? i've been extremely busy lately (from my point of view anyway) and haven't been posting much. you probably already knew that though.

i've been working, seeing shows, working on projects, traveling, visiting with friends not seen in entirely too long, playing with turntables, going to weddings, crashing weddings, drinking more than i need, watching movies, making cakes, playing music, listening to music, thinking about music, reading about photography, taking photos, watching people take photos, cooking chicken curry at least once a week, and some other stuff.

it's been a whirlwind of fun and now i'm ready for down time...which will probably consist of watching movies, making chicken curry, drinking more than i need and maybe a nice fall hike thrown in for good measure. something like that anyway.

hope you are stoked that tomorrow is fucking friday...i am.

okay, no breakfast report today. i'm back off the wagon…or maybe i'm on the wagon…i guess that expression doesn't work well here. either way, no breakfast, just a large coffee. so it goes.

i did have a really weird dream this morning though….somewhere between 5 and 7:30…sure i'll tell you about it.

i lived in this apartment that was one room like a garage with tons of windows, and you could open up two of the walls like garage doors. it was great. the entire room was a really nice green color and all of the windows were white. i guess it was more like a house as there was nobody around me at all…but whatever. i lived in Colorado, out in the middle of nowhere, on top of some sort of mountain with an outstanding view of the mountains. but whenever i would walk outside, there was an ocean right outside of the door. i was still in Colorado, but there was an ocean. yeah. i remember walking outside through one of the large walls with my phone in my hand and getting in the water to take a photo of a dolphin that was swimming by. then i saw a little baby dolphin and it said hello…in English.

then i went back inside to brush my teeth. the apartment suddenly had a bathroom with a really old porcelain sink in it. when i went to brush my teeth the inside of my mouth was full of spaghetti that i somehow never chewed - all pieces still in tact. and my mouth had like a grate or a crisscross grid in it that the spaghetti was caught in. i started pulling the spaghetti out of my mouth, but for no reason i stopped to walk into a new room that i'd never seen before. it was a bedroom with a mattress on the floor and some randomly placed magazine pictures on the wall. the pictures were all of girls, mostly naked.

i couldn't figure out who was staying there, and then bart walked in. it was his room. and then the environment changed and i was back in college, but we were still in the same apartment, but it just was different.

good story eh?

don't sleep.

seems i’ve outdone myself today. i guess the vending machine guy got lazy and decided not to refill the donuts, so i was forced to buy my nutrition in the form of another product. after looking at the granola bar a bit i decided no – it was one of the dry ones and those aren’t really any fun at all. then my eye caught the andy cap chedder fries. those things are great. so good and spicy. mmmm. but my better judgment talk me out of that one as it was only 8:45 in the morning.

so what did i end up with? pop tarts. talk about a blast from the past. haven’t had those things since probably the 4th grade.

while slightly higher in protein, vitamins, and phosphorus than my chocolate friends, they seemed to be chalk full of sugar and sugar related stuff. they were sweeeeeet! too sweet for me. i ran out of coffee before i ate both of them. i think i would have enjoyed them more had i been able to toast them.

lesson learned – though slightly more nutritious than my chocolate donut gems, pop tarts are way too sweet and therefore suck.

when i got to work today i realized that me skipping breakfast each weekday has got to stop. i need to make time to give my belly some lovin. so, with this new attitude in check, i hit up the vending machines for some nutritious donuts. i don't usually eat that stuff, but once in a while i do.

today's selection was chocolate mini frosted. you're probably thinking "gut rot city" as i did at first, but oh no my friend you too are mistaken. you see, right on the package it states, "now better than ever!"

being the skeptic that i am, i considered the idea that this term, "better", was really relative and could be referring to anything. for example, "product shelf life is now better than ever!" or, "the amount we're now charging for this product is higher so this product is now better than ever for our pockets!"

but then i realized i was just delirious from hunger and when sanity kicked in i recalled everything learned in advertising classes - text on food containers is totally unbiased, third party comments (and in this case, a claim most likely from some highly reputable nutrition agency that uses words like "better than ever" to describe nutritional content).

after the realization that i would probably be healthier than ever after eating the gems of goodness, i fished 75 cents out of my nicely ironed khakis and plopped the coins into the machine.

good times were headed my way. and not just good times, but most likely healthy, better than ever good times!

it didn't take me more than 4 minutes to eat all 6 donuts with my coffee. i realized i might be sacrificing a few teeth to cavities, but i figured the healthy aspect would outweigh the bad.

a few minutes later i read the back of the package…24 g's fat (6 of which were saturated). Zero vitamins, very low protein, but 10% iron…that's right baby…i'm all ironed up for the day.

sweet.

lesson learned: advertising is true! never false! better than ever!

julia child has left the building. she will be missed.

Asked by a radio interviewer once what her ultimate meal would be, Child said: "Red meat and a bottle of gin."

As the trend toward healthy eating grew in recent years, Child accused "health experts" who advised cutting out rich foods like red meat and butter as "nutritional Nazis."

"I think these fake foods aren't worth eating," she said in 1992. "Either have the real thing and a little of it or have something else. I like real hamburgers and real meat, real butter. Eat everything. Have fun."

Tuesday's lessons learned (thus far):

1. take the time to make a fresh pot of coffee every morning, even if you are running late...that "yesterday" shite just doesn't cut it.

2. if you aren't going to eat your bagel with peanut butter right when you make it, don't bother...waiting an hour only makes the problem worse.

3. if your water smells like garlic, it's really not worth trying to figure out if it's the ice or your nalgene...just get some fresh water.

welcome to another "thrilling" grindstyle.com update. yeah, i know how goofy that sounds, but hell if it ain't the truth…or far from it…one of the two.

i need to buy some sunglasses because i'm really sick of squinting. anyone have any that they'd recommend? Nothing retro, oversized, or super sporty. Just something simple, black, nice lenses. Anyone?

also thinking about watches. this one is pretty hot.

and then there's this....sigh. soon? maybe? never? i don't know. i was looking at the imac, but couldn't pull the trigger due to my indecisiveness on G4 vs. G5. then they pulled imacs from the apple site and they aren't releasing the new version until September. i don't know if i can wait that long to make a decision.

the weekend was good. grilled at least one meal every day. helped heather put some furniture together. we spent the rest of the weekend up at my dad's place - house-sitting. it was pretty chill and nice. margs and monolopy, grilling, free beers at the community's clubhouse during their 4th of Julio celebration, swim, sun, fireworks, reeses pieces, chicken pesto pine nut brauts. good times.

the weekends seem to go by so fast these days - even the extended ones. before i know it i'm back at work, sitting in front of a computer, headache in tow. it's growing rather old.

i think i'm having a twenty something's version of a mid-life crisis. debating all kinds of life decisions these days. work is pretty high on that list right now too. unfortunately it seems a little to early in my life to take a sabbatical…and really unjustified no matter how i look at it. it also seems a bit too childish to be jobless right now despite the crazy happiness doing nothing would provide.

so that's cool.

but seriously, i’m so far behind on updates that i don’t even know where to start. maybe the photo of the pumpkin i carved for halloween...or photos from xmas...or photos from january’s steamboat trip/poder reunion....or maybe some photos of casa de komp that were promised a month or so ago…and that’s not even getting into the two interviews i never posted, a bunch of silly stories, the winning entry for the “work is for suckers contest” and the booty the winner won (note to winner – yes, you will eventually get that stuff)...some audio fun...man this is really getting depressing.

so forget all of that for now. now is Friday and i’ve got other things on my mind like 5 “oh” clock. good grief and thank the lordy.

i’m not too sure why people get stoked about the forth of july as a holiday. to me, it’s just another 3 day weekend. i’m not very patriotic – it’s hard to be these days. i’m sure if i was, like 80, i’d be all misty-eyed and stuff reminiscing this and that...but i’m not and i’m rather over it as a whole.

to me, the fourth is about bottle rockets and beer...and brauts. i’m not sure why all items on my “hot list” for the fourth start with the letter “b” but i’m not even going to question that one. i’ll let you figure it out.

whatever you’re into, or however you’re planning on celebrating this fourth day of july, have fun and don’t get caught.

don’t sleep.

i saw super size me last night up in boulder. it was pretty much everything i thought it would be - lots of facts, numbers, scary food, and then some. was it entertaining? yes. would i reccomend it? yes...especially if you eat that crap. will i eat mcdonalds in the future? probalby not considering i haven't done so in almost one year (over 2 years if you don't count french fries...which you should...so i do). i do eat at some fast food places (subway, chipotle, tokyo joes, quiznos), so i'm not trying to be hypocritical here. just saying...you know, whatever.

but, the real reason you should see this movie is because it stars noneother than mr greg bretthauer. who is greg bretthauer? obviously you didn't take marketing at appleton east highschool. good old greggers is in there representing not what you'd think wisco would be in the movie for - healthy school lunches at appleton central alternative high school. yeah, wisco was actually representing the healthy for once! how crazy is that? he's no longer with appleton east, and apparantly isn't teaching marketing, and it's a rather short cameo, but still...

i did a short google search for greggers and came up with logs of info about the school and it's nutrition program. good for them...beats that shit i used to eat for lunch back in the day.

anyway, if you're into to eating large amounts of shitty fast food, do yourself a favor and stop. maybe even go check out this movie inbetween shoveling that crap into your piehole.

hugs.

so while the mighty and the powerful spend their weekends driving expensive, gas guzzling, war supporting SUVs and lounging around on their expensive yahts (Gucci-clad wife in tow), the lowly cubicle worker shall sit in his pathetic, fabric-walled cell working in repetition, bleeding from the eyes, with horrible posture, plugging away to make sure that monday morning is "status quo" when the big boys return to "play" work.

thank you sir, may i have another?

that’s the new haps over here at grindstyle.com....slang.

oh, that’s another one...haps...as in happening. that one came by way of T-fan.

so what did you learn today? that’s right, bees and haps. grindstyle.com...the new slang. tell your mom.

weekend is over and that's too bad cuz it was a good one.

drunk kickball at wash park was one of the highlights for sure. so was listening to my girlfriend tell me that my website sucks. well, she actually said that it was "boring."

so that was cool.

saw eternal sunshine and spots and sunshine with spots for your mind or whatever it was called...enjoyed it.

went to the pool today because it's hot hot hot today.

um...going to eat dinner tonight...maybe nap...movie...um...

yeah, maybe this site is boring.

so i'm at the cherry creek library with heather. it's a really, really nice day out - no idea why we're inside. but when in rome...or cherry creek...you gotta get free music from the library. today's selections include:

bob dylan - blond on blond

(sure, why not)

jeffy buckley - live at the sin-e

(never heard this)

belel and sebastian - if you're feeling sinister (lost this)

OK GO (no clue, just for fun)

the turnbrakes - ether song (not much to choose from today..the cover looks weak, but the name was interesting.

the music - (again, not a clue...swirley thing on the cover...er...we'll see

that's it for today. not much of a pull, but whatever.

heather is giving me shit for my spelling...so guess i'll stop rambilng nowe.

contest is over and i guess most of you are bummed. "why should i be bummed" you ask? well, cuz winning free shit has never been so easy. here's the schwag you missed out on:

oh…sorry…ask the winner what he won. you wouldn't know cuz you're not a winner. all i'm sayin is you gotta be in it to win it. photos of the winner package soon to come…maybe.

speaking of the winner, that'd be none other than our very own komper pants. way to go deuce. and for the curious, he won because he had the best entry, not because he was the only entry. unfortunately, i can't upload the file from work, so it'll have to come this weekend some time.

speaking of scott, the winner of the "work sucks" contest, i've been busy working on a little piece about scott for the site…a bit on komp's housewarming party. more so his house, but whatever. it's coming. for real. here's a bit of a sneak peak.

the weekend is here and i'm ready…man am i ready. fun in the sun and cancer for the dancers.

don't sleep.

for those of you that haven't entered the contest yet, yer blowin it. if you are planning on it i will warn you with this, the lone entry thus far is a banger, so if you want to win some good stuff, you better be creative. and if you're too lame to even enter - so be it. regardless, someone's getting the goods!!

see yesterday's post for more info.

in other news, screw news, listen to music. mixoftheweek.com has some decent mixes up. some are boring, but there are a few good ones.

got more email from bart and even though we didn't talk about it, "big in japan" is going to be ridiculous. just know that. all i know is that i need to see eight hundo to make it happen…actually close to a g. if i set up pay pal, will you come to my aid? mmm…probably not, you won't even enter contests to win free stuff!!!

sad but true.

hi, it’s Tuesday and all i know is that being at work gets a big thumbs down.

boo. i’m over it. not feelin it. movin on. are you? i mean, it’s summer. we should be out in the sun, doing drunk things.

time for a contest here at grindstyle.com. tell me why work sucks. you can use words, photos, puppets, draw a picture, whatever, but the kicker is that you have to fax me your answer. all email entries will be ignored. here’s the fax number: (775) 417-2724

it’s a private fax, so no worries on content…no one will see it but me.

so go and make good use of the company fax today and send something over. don’t forget to put your name and email addy somewhere on your entry. the best response will get a one of a kind grindstyle.com package sent to them.

contest is only open until 12 pm friday.

as i mentioned before, bart is in japan now. what's he up to? here's a few highlights...straight from his mouth...er...fingers.

>Survived my first Typhoon, even though it didn't hit right near us, we got a lot of rain.

>Ate raw horse, by accident, reccommending you not try it

>Got really drunk and ding dong ditched some japanese houses...hum?!

as a note, now that we've got representation, we're going to get some grindstyle.com "big in japan" action hooked up in the future. don't sleep kids.

so what’s up? yes, using this “link” post as a personal message post today. my bad – make do with the boo.

i’ve been up to good and no good. good would be sending things to mom for her day, eating pretty well, drinking lots of water (kinda), and getting up a bit earlier. no good would be playing too much pro skater, getting cancer in the sun, spending money on god knows what, and eating out too much.

what have you been up to?

okay, i guess it's been long enough...and i can finally tell you the big news. congratulations and love and love and love to joe and alicia. they aren't hippies, but they're full of love and they're getting married...well, not yet, but they're engaged!!

so that's cool. i imagine that they'll be sending me the wedding gifts they don't want. and in case they need a list of things that they won't want i'll start one now.

plasma tvs, turntables, little fridges for your beer, round trip tickets to japan, dvds (most all except dirty dancing, footloose, and flash dance), wireless speakers, cameras...you get the picture. so for those of you that might be getting them gifts, email me for my address and we'll save on double shipping costs. joe and alicia have pretty much agreed to this, so get those emails rolling.

seriously though...congrats kids...and let's see what we can do to get some good gifts okay?
